StrongVPN OpenVPN connection on Maemo

Thanks Ivan for kindly provided setup example on his Nokia n900 based on Maemo

Maemo is a software platform developed by maemo community for smartphones and Internet tablets. It is based on the Debian Linux distribution. Maemo is mostly based on open source code, and has been developed by Maemo Devices within Nokia in collaboration with many open source projects such as the Linux kernel, Debian, and GNOME. Maemo is based on Debian GNU/Linux and draws much of its GUI, frameworks, and libraries from the GNOME project. It uses the Matchbox window manager, and the GTK-based Hildon as its GUI and application framework.

Lets start

1) Download your configuration files to device

2) Will need install OpenVPN applet. Open your browser and go to http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/openvpn-applet/ and click on “Install“.

3) Setup OpenVPN and OpenVPN applet will start on screen

You should check “I understand and agree” and click “Continue”.

4) Go toApplets Menu and select OpenVPN.

5) Click on “Manage Connections”.

and click “New” in OpenVPN Manager Connections.

Click on “Configuration File” and Select your ovpnXXX.ovpn configuration file, “Key File”, “Cert File” and “Ca File” fields will be selected automatically.

Note! If “Secret File” field will be empty – click on this field and select ta.key file. Then click “Import”.

6) Ok done, connection is imported. You can test connection now – just click “Test“. If you see  CONNECTED, SUCCESS string – your connection works fine.

7) Go to “Applets Menu”, select OpenVPN applet and click “Connect to ovpnXXX”.

You can check connection in OpenVPN applet – you should see “1 active connection”.

8) Open browser, follow http://strongvpn.com/ and check your ip.

 

Troubleshooting

Go to OpenVPN applet, select “Manage connections”, select your connection and click “Test”. Then click “View Log”.

You can save connection Log(just click “Save”).
